Indeed: the worse the weather, the better the sauna. Wouldn’t you like to do this in your own backyard? (Note the 1:10 mark – Clint was diving champion in high school).
This is a guest post from my friend Steve, who recently had a bad fall, then major emergency shoulder surgery:
Dec. 3, 2010 We’ve talked about Friday afternoon saunas, and the beauty of this Friday sauna session was a heavy dose of snow falling. Here’s an email dialogue with my friend Brian on his way to my backyard sauna to join this sauna party. My laptop was streaming music for the sauna. He was in stopped traffic, pulled out his laptop and typed:
A few minutes later, a determined Brian arrived. We took 3 rounds, celebrating all that fresh snow outside the backyard sauna.
What a great gift! Commit to purchase today, and in a few days we could have it in your backyard with a bow on it. This sauna is on display at Uncommon Gardens 5750 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis. Stop by and check it out.
This isn’t my job, this is my passion. I’ve built a bunch of saunas and this is an excellent sauna. I am selling this one as I am going to build another, identical sauna on it’s own trailer.
This sauna has been used only a few times. It’s in great shape, stove is safely broken in, and it comes with a few ‘extras’ when we’ll deliver it to your backyard. Give me a call, Glenn 612-801-7126.

The mobile sauna was delivered today to Uncommon Gardens in South Minneapolis.
Peggy Poore, owner, has shown remarkable vision in helping her friends and customers realize the potential of a backyard ‘up north’ escape by bringing in the mobile sauna to her garden center. While shopping for their holiday greenery, folks can get warm and get a feel of how an 8′x12′ sauna can fit into their own backyard.
While an enthusiastic staff made quick work of decorating the mobile sauna (just like Linus’s Christmas tree on the Peanuts Christmas show) we were able to fire up the wood burning sauna stove, bringing up to 150 degrees in a matter of minutes.
The mobile sauna will be on display through the holiday season. If you’re in the Twin Cities, come by Uncommon Gardens, 5750 Lyndale Avenue South. If you’re not in the Twin Cities, there are many non stop flights from most major cities in North America. Uncommon Gardens is a $25 cab ride from MSP Airport.
Two reasons.

Managing your sauna temperature offers some parallels to good cooking.
Everyone knows you get your oven up to 425 degrees before you toss in a pizza. Otherwise, your bread gets tough and pizza soggy. Same with sauna, get it up to temperature.
Know where your temperature is at, whether it’s your grill, oven, or steam pan for broccoli. Radiant heat produces even heat, just like in your sauna. Too hot and the outside is burnt and inside is unaffected.
Whether we’re talking propane, charcoal briquettes or electric BTUs, it’s a waste to overheat. Food cooks better, more uniform, when you turn the heat off a few minutes before your done. The last sauna round feels best when you take advantage of the remaining thermal heat in your sauna stove.
Chefs just know. They don’t need to cut into halibut to know when it’s done. Same with sauna. When you feel like you want to cool down, you go cool down.
Creating an ‘up north’ authentic sauna vibe where ever you need it, whenever you need it.
I hear this sometimes. Here’s the simple solution: wet your hair before you go into a sauna: wood burning sauna, backyard sauna, Finnish sauna, health club sauna, but I can’t vouch for an infrared microwave.
BONUS: You’ll find that this will moisturize your hair.
EXTRA BONUS: You’ll need no shampoo or soap. How do I know?
ADMISSION: I used no shampoo for 74 straight days. I took a sauna 3-4 times a week. Each sauna, I took 3-4 rounds, jumping into the clear cool lake water between rounds. That’s it.
My hair felt great, clean all summer long without the use of any product from a bottle. However, I did start to speak in shorter sentences – I think i’m becoming a Scandinavian.
