Casey Veggies and PSY bring “Sauna” to rapstream, faux pas and all.

Remember looking at a cereal box cartoon with the instructions: “find five things wrong in this photo.”?

Most of Casey Veggies sauna faux pas are as obvious as the entire rap culture.  If this isn’t enough, ‘Gangnam Style’ is now the most watched Youtube video of all time. And if you’re one of the billion viewers, you’ll catch Korean rapper(?) Psy in the sauna, too, minus the blunt and popcorn.:

Tis the season to build sauna, fa la la la la

All the leaves have fallen.

Crisp cold mornings are met with fat squirrels running around like mad, stocking up for the winter.  We know what’s around the corner, and more and more people are embracing the cold weather inevitability by building their own authentic Finnish sauna.  Taking a bite of a fresh apple, hammer in hand, “If I can get the exterior buttoned up before the snow flies” becomes the primary focus.

Mornings have been spent sipping coffee.

Drawing up the design, and like squirrels, many have collected their building materials and have dove head first into the pile, turning a stack under black tarp into a semblance of an actual building.  What pride comes with shelling and finishing the exterior!  The satisfaction of turning a drawing into an actual building.

Saunatimes gets lots of inquiries this time of year.

And we try to dispel the mystique of building your own sauna.  There are many tips, like:

1. Foil Bubble Wrap. A sauna without it is just another word for nothing left to lose.

2. Bottom Drip Edge. The perimeter base for the first course of t&g cedar to rest on.  Kids can have a water party in your sauna, and the drip edge is an integral first step toward shedding water.  (NOTE: Speaker wire along the base of sauna hot room where it’ll work just fine, away from the heat).

Most saunas are electric, inside the house.

And we understand this reality.  Ease of use, flip a switch, “My wife won’t go outside in a bathrobe.”  “I don’t have time to light a fire, it’s such a hassle.”  Yet there are folks who relish the authenticity of a wood burning sauna.  Today, wood burning sauna stoves are safe and extremely efficient.  They light easily and reliably via Nate’s Firestarters, and get up to serving temperature in about the same time as an electric sauna stove.  BONUS:  As an anonymous Finlander quietly announced: “wood keeps you warm three times.  1) when you cut it.  2) when you stack it.  3) when you burn it.”

There’s a movement away from mass culture Miller Genuine Draft and over to hand crafted microbrews.

These same folks are moving away from infrared light bulb closets and into authentic Finnish saunas.  Come join us.

Be Well Philly encourages sauna use. Does this mean less crazy sports fans?

Be Well Philly magazine had a nice snipped encouraging folks to use the sauna at their gym.

The article references how sauna can do “wonders for your health” including:

  • muscle pain, achy joint pain relief
  • clean skin, healthy glow
  • physical relief from hypertension, heart problems
  • feel good endorphins for mental health

Many sauna enthusiasts have found a way to make health club saunas work for them, while others have leveraged these benefits exponentially by investing in their own sauna at home.

OPPORTUNITY:  an 8′x12′ corner in your backyard may change your (health & wellness) life.  Renting?  1.5 parking spaces could offer the same haven.  Landlord friendly, community building, and you can take it with you when you move.

Prince Andrew digs sauna and the secret is out

Yoga is ancient tradition. Authentic devotees adopted yoga with enthusiasm (and for good reason). Those early adopters brought it (by purpose or by accident) to some of the elite – those with lots of coin and time on their hands. For those with coin and time have the freedom to explore, find what is authentic, and pay for it for themselves: (a private yoga instructor for Jane Fonda).

The Jane Fonda’s then went on Oprah with bright smiles and tight fitting clothes “OK Jane, America wants to know. what’s your secret?” Others jumped on board, and it didn’t take long for yoga to rage like Starbucks. “Oh, I’ve been doing yoga for years. It really centers me”.

There is nothing wrong with this. Something authentic, real, that helps is a wonderful thing, especially in today’s phone it in world.

Thus, the parallel:

Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Prince Andrew: “… enjoys the sauna and uses it to unwind in his role as a trade ambassador for the UK.”

Sauna snob or not, it’s cool to connect with other authentic sauna devotees.  Glad you’re with us.
