Two Saunas for Sale in Minneapolis St. Paul

light steam graphic

Sauna #1:

Here we have an 8’x12′ backyard sauna. I put in several hours of my own time to help build this sauna. This is a collaboration with several smart thinkers and doers in the world of sauna. Collaborators include my friend Darin, creator of the patented Urban Wing Sauna Vent, UP Finn Joel, and my buddy Daniel helped too. I designed this sauna using my tried and true 8×12 backyard sauna model that dates back to 2009, and I encourage you to read more about this design by clicking here. I have built about 10 of these same 8’x12′ saunas, and I have helped several hundreds build their own. I am a big fan of this layout, where the hot room and the changing room are pretty close to the same dimension. In this case:

  • Height: 7′
  • Hot room: 7’4″ x 5’9″
  • Cool down room: 7’4″ x 5’9″

This sauna comes complete, and ready for a match to get the Kuuma going. This sauna has been fired up about 10 times (4 or 5 by me), and is now just barely broken in. (The entire sauna will be professionally cleaned and restored to new condition).

8’x12′ backyard sauna for sale

In the cool down room, we have:

  • 12’x16′ tempered glass window in the hot room door.
  • 18’x42″ tempered glass window from the hot room through to the changing room.
  • Really nice shallow long shelves (for phones, water bottles, nICE mugs, beverage containers, glasses, and all that jazz).
  • Functional hooks (for towels, pants, Troxers, coats, and all that jazz).
Here we get a view from inside the cool down room into the hot room.

In the hot room, we have:

  • 7’4″ long clear cedar upper bench, fixed.
  • 7’4″ long cedar lower bench, retractable.
  • 1×6 knotty tongue and groove cedar paneling.
  • Small wood burning Kuuma stove, with ash pan and glass window.
  • Premium diabase sauna rocks, approved by all Finns and Swedes that can tell the difference.
  • 2 – 18′ x 42″ tempered glass windows on adjacent walls to the outside.
  • Double upper vents, utilizing patented vent chutes, offering infinite controlled ventilation.
  • Double drains, below the upper bench.
  • Dimmable under bench LED rope lighting
  • Dimmable wall sconce LED light.
Clear cedar upper benches. Quality 1×6 tongue and groove cedar hot room. Tempered glass windows.

Pricing for 8’x12′:

  • $32,000 Regular price, will most likely be $34,000 as materials keep going up.
  • $25,000 For this prototype. FOB my friend Joel’s backyard, Lexington and Grand, St. Paul, MN.

Sauna #2:

Here we have an 6’x8′ “hot room only” backyard sauna. I put in several hours of my own time to help build this sauna with my friend Joel. My buddy Daniel helped too. I designed this sauna using the hot room half of my tried and true 8×12 backyard sauna model that dates back to 2009, and I encourage you to read more about this design by clicking here. I have built about 10 of these same 8’x12′ saunas, but this one is 6′ x 8′ hot room only. I have helped several hundred more build their own. I am a big fan of this layout. In this case, hot room only:

  • Hot room: 7’4″ x 5’9″
  • 7’4″ long clear cedar upper bench, fixed.
  • 7’4″ long cedar lower bench.
  • 1×6 knotty tongue and groove cedar paneling.
  • Small wood burning Kuuma stove, with ash pan and glass window.
  • Premium diabase sauna rocks, approved by all Finns and Swedes that can tell the difference.
  • Double upper vents, utilizing patented vent chutes, offering infinite controlled ventilation.
  • Double drains, below the upper bench.
  • Dimmable under bench LED rope lighting
  • Dimmable wall sconce LED light.
  • Door window: 12″ x 16″ soon to be installed.
  • Exterior window: 16″ x 32″ not yet, but possible to be installed, (it is framed out and ready) at the discretion/direction/advisement/ $300 ish extra coin from this sauna’s new owner.
2×4 clear cedar stock for upper bench. Will be completely re-sanded to factory fresh.
6’x8′ sauna exterior. Glass window will be installed in the door. Optional transom window to be installed, based on direction of new owner.
All aluminum chassis base. Can be dragged across the lake for lake plunge activation or ice fishing relief.
Semi patented triangle support system. Cedar paneling hot room.

Pricing for 6’x8′:

  1. Great stuff Glenn, keep them coming. What are the best practices for ensuring the foundation is level?

I’ve had a tent sauna in my backyard in the past but didn’t do a great job to level it. I also have a 20 x 20 gravel space adjacent to my driveway that could be suitable if leveled or rigged in a way to make it level.

    Thanks!

  2. Hi Matt:

Leveling a foundation for sauna depends upon a few variables. Eg. how much elevation are we dealing with, what’s the current drainage situation, permanent build or temporary, etc. All this is detailed in my e-book, where I mention class 5 as a good base as well as simple blocking in corners to support the framework, allowing for airflow underneath. A blocking system allows us to re-level at anytime. And a good base for blocks is to dig down with a #2 shovel, and back fill with Class 5.

Hope this helps you get into a “level the vibes” spirit. We only get to prepare the base for our saunas one time, so it’s good that you’re applying consciousness to it.

  3. I’m late to this particular sauna acquisition party but not to emotional investment in sauna as a whole. Please email me if the little guy (6’X8′) or one like it is still available. Must fit one 6’5 man (my husband) as well as me and our two little girls who will of course grow to be full sized eventually.

  4. Interested in one of your builds. I’m in north central Iowa so wouldn’t be a problem to zip up with a trailer to pick up…anything available now?

  5. Having built more than15 saunas over the past 45 years, both frame and log, I question why anyone would picture, use, or allow to be used, fiberglass or rock wool batting in such a building. First, fiberglass loses much of its comparatively meager insulative value in a damp environment. Second, when airborne and respirable, it’s very unhealthy and may exacerbate asthma symptoms, and, according so some sources, can be causal to some of the same other afflictions as asbestos, e.g., mesothelioma. Third, once the batts are dragged into and installed in a room, glass particles remain on surfaces and in the enclosed air. Sheet foam insulations are a much healthier choice and have better insulative value. We also used dried sphagnum moss or processed sheep’s wool in sauna and cabin applications. It wouldn’t even be legal to use fiberglass to insulate an occupied structure in some countries, like Germany. On the other hand, China, Canada, and the U.S. are, unfortunately, addicted to its use.

  6. Interesting ! Appreciate your insights and observations regarding fiberglass batting. For many, as you know, we sleep better and at somewhat peace after hermetically sealing this material behind foil favor barrier, seams and ends foil taped throughout.
