There is growing interest in the “Backyard Retreat” sauna concept, where a few steps out your back door, you can escape to your own health and wellness center.

A small space carved out in a neglected corner where there’s no competition for a spot in the parking lot or floor space in the locker room. Â A space where you can play the latest Wilco album as loud or quiet as you wish. Â A space where you share the sauna bench with family, and friends old and new.
I’ve received a fair number of emails lately, folks curious as to my backyard set up. Â I built my backyard sauna over 10 years ago, in 2003, and when not at our lake cabin, I use this sauna three times a week. Â My backyard sauna has been a key lifestyle enhancement.

Socially: Â My backyard sauna is miles better than a bar. Â I invite friends to sauna and have formed new friendships with kindred spirits. Â We solve worlds problems and become legends in our own minds.
Healthy: Â My backyard sauna is a key enhancement to better fitness. Â I run, then sauna. Â I bike, then sauna. Â In winter, I ski out my back door, then sauna. Â I enjoy fresh air and the spontaneity of a varied fitness routine, and authentic sauna feels f**ing awesome after a work out.
Mentally: Â Sauna is a reset button. Â Whether getting rid of airplane juice, or trying to untangle wires in my head from a busy week, sauna helps me, mentally, better than any other activity. Â Plus, it’s a great way to connect with my family. Â I have had deep, open, honest conversations with our two sons in sauna that i’m pretty sure would never happen in any other environment.

And here’s a little video that shows more:
I can help you realize your own authentic sauna dream. Â Life is short, and I think now is a good time for you to start enjoying your own authentic sauna in your own backyard.
